Unicorns have been mentioned in the Bible and legends throughout the ages and are found in myths and art in many countries and cultures around the world. Symbols of purity, these mystical horse-like, elusive creatures were fierce combatants when cornered, but if slain, would rise again. Yet a virgin's touch was enough to bring them to their knees, and they would gently lay their head in her lap in complete submission.

Unicorn horns were highly prized for their powers in healing, especially as antidotes to poisons. Animals of the forest would gather by a lake and wait for a unicorn to come and dip its horn into the water to purify it before they would drink. Medieval medicine chests were not complete without the ground powder from a unicorn's horn. Intricate carvings depicting these beautiful spiral horns are exquisite pieces of art.

Unicorns continue to fascinate us and cause us to wonder if they existed in some form at one time. Maybe they are symbols of things we search for.

May the myth of the unicorn live on ... and may we find a unicorn in our dreams!
